President Donald Trump recently said that a proposed trade deal with China might not meet the set deadline on March 1. During a conference last Friday in the Whitehouse Rose Garden, he had this to say:

“There is a possibility that I will extend the date, but if I do that, if I see that we’re close to a deal or the deal is going in the right direction, I would do that at the same tariffs that we’re charging now, I would not increase the tariffs.”

As it stands, US tariffs on Chinese imports worth $200 billion are set to go up to 25% from 10% if no deal is reached at the start of next month.
